CSAC proposes regulation change to include therapeutic use exemption

Jason Burum

I know I’ve been bad about keeping things up to date around here but that’s all slowly changing. In the last few days things have begun to pay off. Besides the fact I began blogging over at SB nation which I hope will eventually turn into something more, I also picked up a gig as a writer/reporter for a website that covers local/regional/amateur MMA . The upside is I will be contributing to the growth of the sport by reporting on events and fighters at the ground level of the sport up through their journey to the big shows.  I would compare what i’m going to be doing to the equivalent of a journalist who covers high school and college sports, which is a very important job. Your the first in line to let the world know who’s going to be the guy/girl to look out for in the future.  So here are a few small changes i’ll be making to my posting and the format it will now take on.

  • Any new pieces that have to do with the bigger organizations will be posted through SB nation with links to all articles posted here on my blog
  • All pieces and coverage I do with Questionable Stoppage will be exclusive to their site with links to said pieces here on my blog
  • So i’m going to try and start to cover local Pro Wrestling shows when possible.I’m not sure when this will start but hopefully when it does you guys will enjoy it!
  • Lastly I’m thinking about moving my Memoirs Of A Square Circle column over to this blog eventually but it’s not something i’m totally sold on yet

I think that pretty much covers it all!

I just found this over at the CSAC official site. I guess PED’s and crooked managers/trainers aren’t the only things fighters have to worry about anymore!

ALERT-POTENTIAL LICENSE DENIAL OR SUSPENSION FOR FAILURE TO PAY TAXES:

Effective July 1, 2012, the California State Athletic Commission is required to deny an application for licensure and to suspend the license/certificate/registration of any applicant or licensee who has outstanding tax obligations due to the Franchise Tax Board (FTB) or the State Board of Equalization (BOE) and appears on either the FTB or BOE’s certified lists of top 500 tax delinquencies over $100,000. (AB 1424, Perea, Chapter 455, Statutes of 2011)

Once it has been determined that an applicant or a licensee is on a certified list, the applicant or licensee has 90 days from the issuance of a preliminary notice of suspension to either satisfy all outstanding tax obligations or enter into a payment installment program with the FTB or BOE. Any such person who fails to come into compliance will have his/her license denied or suspended until the California State Athletic Commission receives a release from the FTB or BOE. The form for requesting a release will be included with the preliminary notice of suspension.

The law prohibits the California State Athletic Commission from refunding any money paid for the issuance or renewal of a license where the license is denied or suspended as required by AB 1424.

The FTB and BOE are currently expanding the certified lists from 250 to 500, but you can check if you are currently on the FTB’s certified list at: www.ftb.ca.gov/individuals/txdlnqnt.shtml or the BOE’s certified list at: www.boe.ca.gov/cgi-bin/deliq.cgi. If you believe you are on either list in error, please call the FTB at (866) 418-3702 or the BOE at 916-445-5167.
